**This study aims to highlight the importance of the dialogue between Heraclius and Abu Sufyan (may Allah be pleased with him), and the lessons that can be derived from it, as well as to demonstrate the impact of truthful dialogue, taking this model as guidance. The problem of the study lies in the fact that effective dialogue must necessarily include the value of honesty upheld by both parties; indeed, one of the most significant factors that influenced Heraclius’s dialogue with Abu Sufyan was the truthfulness of the interlocutors.**
The importance of this topic stems from the high status of the value of honesty, particularly in dialogue and discussion, as many historical incidents have shown that truthful dialogues yield fruitful outcomes, the most notable of which is this example that occurred in the early period of Islam with the Christians.
The researcher adopted the inductive-analytical method in addressing this topic. The study found that honesty contributes to the success of dialogues, helps end disputes, and brings parties closer together, especially when the etiquette and conditions of dialogue are observed. It also found that interfaith dialogue in general, and dialogue with the People of the Book in particular, has a long history, depth, and importance in the movement of Islamic الدعوة (Da‘wah).
The study recommends that research centers and Da‘wah institutions, especially those operating in non-Muslim countries, should organize training courses in the art and ethics of dialogue, as well as programs in self-purification and training preachers to uphold honesty in actions, speech, and all aspects of Da‘wah.
