The Department of Geography at the Faculty of Arts and Humanities at Imam Al-Mahdi University Concludes Its Scientific Field Trip to Sennar State
The Department of Geography at the Faculty of Arts and Humanities at Imam Al-Mahdi University concluded its scientific field trip for Geography students to Sennar State. The trip was organized as part of efforts to enhance field training and connect theoretical knowledge with practical application. It was supervised by the Head of the Geography Department, Professor Saeed Mohamed, with the participation of a number of department lecturers and support staff.
The trip began from the Faculty’s headquarters in Al-Jazira Aba, passing through Rabak, where students benefited from studying the geographical features along the route. The program started in Sennar Locality, where students were introduced to the roles and responsibilities of the Ministry of Urban Planning and the Ministry of Agriculture. They also learned about the efforts made in the fields of planning, agricultural development, and resource management.
The program also included a visit to the Wildlife Administration at Dinder National Park to study the geomorphology of the Dinder River. The students received comprehensive explanations about biodiversity, wildlife conservation mechanisms, and the importance of natural reserves in maintaining environmental balance. They also visited the Agricultural Research Corporation at Um Banein Livestock Research Station, where they were introduced to its research programs and its role in developing the agricultural sector and improving production. In addition, the students visited the Meteorological Station.
The scientific field trip concluded with a visit to Sennar Dam, where students learned about its historical and economic significance, its role in irrigation and water resource management, as well as the geographical and engineering aspects associated with the project.
The students confirmed that the trip achieved its academic objectives and contributed to deepening their knowledge through field experience and linking academic concepts with practical reality. They emphasized that the experience enhanced their scientific and research skills and contributed to preparing them for the labor market with greater competence and excellence
